After retiring with years in military service and looking back at those twenty six years, I realized that my time in the military served as a public servant to our country doing the things that our country wants us to do overseas in maintaining the freedom that we enjoy here in the United States.
Once I retired I wanted to continue to do that and that's why I'm here at the Department of Commerce's Minority Business Development Agency helping minority businesses grow and fuel our economy.
That to me is tremendous public service.
Love the people, and everyone here at Commerce has been great.
I've been here for years this year and have worked for seven different secretaries, all which have been all very diverse but wonderful.
Public service means a lot to me. My family has always stressed community and responsibility and to me, public service allows me to kind of accommodate both of those things.
Going into government seemed like a natural fit.
It's been a great chance to work directly with the American people and to see how I can give back as an individual and as part of a larger organization.
Public service means smart people coming together to think about the ideas that affect our country and the people in our country.
We are helping people quite a bit here. This is a good place to work.
Public service definitely is a good route. I started actually when I was 18.
Now my twenty-fifth year as I mentioned, I actually followed in my parents footsteps who my parents were both in public service.
It is one of the most rewarding careers that you can do. At the end to the day when you look at all the things that you do here at the Department of Commerce and the way they touch places in the United States that's going to help grow jobs and make the economy better.
It's an incredible opportunity and I really really really hope that young men and women out there look into doing public service in their future.
I would encourage them to get into public service because their ideas matter and they can impact generations down the line.
Public service is an incredibly fulfilling opportunity. It's a chance to give back to the community that you come from, to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders and to really enact a true difference.
So I'd absolutely encourage anyone looking for a next step, whether you're straight out of college or in the middle of your career, to think about joining the government.
