Statement from Under Secretary Rebecca Blank on Personal Income and Outlays in January 2010
The U.S. Commerce Department’s Bureau of Economic Analysis today released personal income and outlays for January 2010. Personal income rose 0.1 percent in January, real disposable personal income decreased 0.6 percent, and real personal consumption expenditures advanced 0.3 percent.
“The moderate growth in consumer spending during the second half of last year has carried over into 2010.” said Commerce Department Under Secretary Rebecca Blank. “Real spending in January already has increased above its fourth-quarter average. Households benefited from government stimulus efforts during 2009, and these programs will continue to support income and spending during 2010.”
