Remarks at USA Pavilion World Expo 2010
Deputy Mayor Yang, honored guests, thank you for coming today for this special occasion. I’m delighted to join you to break ground for the USA Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai Expo.
On this auspicious occasion, I am honored to be here at the launching of what will be a great American presence in the magnificent Shanghai Expo 2010 that will take place next year.
Our Pavilion will be one of the largest at the Expo, and let me say that we want to make it one of the best.
The United States and China have many areas of friendship and cooperation, and I believe that our USA Pavilion will provide many insights into American life, culture and our people that will intrigue the millions of Chinese visitors expected at the Expo.
I want everyone here today to know that I have traveled to Shanghai to participate in this groundbreaking ceremony because the Obama Administration is committed to continue to build our relationship with China and to enhance the friendship between the people of America and China.
Today, I want to offer my special thanks, gratitude and recognition to the representatives of those American companies in attendance today who have shown such great and spirited leadership in being the first sponsors of the USA Pavilion.
I know in this difficult economic time such sponsorship decisions are not easily made. But I want to assure you that your commitment to our Pavilion, and to building our friendship with China and the Chinese people, will not be forgotten. The names of these companies are on display for you here.
The USA Pavilion will be a venue to showcase innovative American technologies, especially in the environmental realm, which are making such a strong contribution to achieving a Better City, Better Life which is the theme of next year’s Expo.
We believe that through the innovation, international cooperation and the exchange of ideas that will take place among the participants in Shanghai Expo 2010, we all can help build a better life for future generations.
In closing, I wish all those involved in building the USA Pavilion the very best success in your endeavor, and great inspiration in making our Pavilion one to remember.
I have great confidence in you and look forward to returning here next year to join in bringing the best of America to the people of China and the world.
