“Today, the Innovation Advisory Board members met for the first time and laid out a roadmap for completing a study of America’s economic competitiveness and innovative capacity by January 4, 2012, as required by the America COMPETES Act. The board will help us identify critical issues and policies that impact U.S. innovation and competitiveness and measure our performance against our global competitors. Members will offer insight on issues including human capital, entrepreneurship, trade, local and regional opportunities, economic infrastructure and industry that will guide the development of our report about how to best enhance U.S. competitiveness and innovation.

“During today’s inaugural meeting, members broke out into discussion groups focused on four areas: 1) Macroeconomic Conditions and Regional and Infrastructure Issues; 2) Manufacturing, Services and International Trade; 3) Education, Immigration and Other Workforce Issues; and 4) Entrepreneurship, Intellectual Property, Commercialization, and Knowledge Markets. Each group identified the most critical issues and trends to consider as we move forward in drafting our report.

“We got off to a great start today, and I am honored to be working with such a distinguished team on this important project. The work of the Innovation Advisory Board will help inform administration policies that will better position us to win the future.”
